Hi Everyone,
On behalf of the DGRS thank you so much for making last night the highly successful event it was. You are all rockstars! Your contributions through participation, support, and assistance created the magic. We witnessed the fastest men’s mile and 5000m run on Ngā Puna Wai, and then Sally Gibbs the legend, “take a bow” you great person, goes and runs a Masters age category WR in the Women’s 5000m (17.50 TBC)…it doesn’t get any better! We also witnessed many people stepping up and giving track a go for the first time. Legends right there!
Bringing the community and the competitive runner together was always our goal, and we are extremely grateful to our sponsors for making this happen. To Andrew Stark and his timing/starting team, fellow DGRS helpers and the DGRS social media team, Rachel Shields for the flowers, the Riccarton High School Media team, Angie Petty and Modecai Nkhwazi for your live stream commentary, Jamie Curd our photographer, all your combined efforts delivered a production and event to be proud of, we the DGRS sincerely thank you all.
In closing, I felt it was very evident last night, that here in Christchurch we care more about the person, rather than the colour singlet they wear. I also felt that you know it’s going to be a good night when in one of the early races a wee junior girl upon crossing the finishing line performs a cartwheel (Russell Green maybe next year?). Results are up!
Again thank you for your support and see you all next year,
Phil
